The Phoenix Car Scene: My Top 5 Spots to See Real Custom Art in the Valley
Welcome
I have been doing this for over 35 years now and one thing I know is that the Phoenix car scene is one of the best in the world. People out here really care about their rides. They don't just want a car that gets them from point A to point B they want something that shows off who they are. That is where I come in with my hand-painted pinstriping and custom art. You can see my work all over the Valley but if you want to see the real deal in person you have to know where to go. Looking at pictures online is one thing but seeing the way the light hits a hand-painted line or a piece of gold leaf is something else entirely. It has a soul to it that a sticker just can't match. And I want to be clear on this post too these are real shots of real cars and real work, not AI fakes. People who live this stuff know the difference right away, and my customers definitely know the difference.
I am located in the Phoenix Metro Area specifically near 75th Ave. and Union Hills. If you want to get some work done you can call or text (602) 397-7134
1. The Arizona Super Show
This is the big one for the lowrider community. If you want to see the most intense custom paint jobs in Arizona this is the place to be. We are talking about murals and flakes and more pinstriping than you can shake a stick at. I love going to this show because the level of craftsmanship is just off the charts. You see cars that have hundreds of hours of work in the paint alone. Seeing a lowrider with Southwest Art or intricate Scroll Pinstriping in person is a religious experience for a gearhead. The colors are so deep you feel like you could swim in them. It is usually held at a big stadium or convention center, and it brings out the best of the best.

2. Barrett-Jackson and Arizona Car Week
Every January Scottsdale becomes the center of the car world. You have Barrett-Jackson which is the big auction but there are shows all over the place during Car Week. This is where you see the high-end Hot Rods and the perfectly restored classics. The thing about these cars is that they are often perfect. When I pinstripe a car for a show like this the lines have to be absolutely flawless because people are looking at them with a magnifying glass. It is a great place to see how pinstriping can take a beautiful car and make it a masterpiece.

3. Good guys Rod & Custom Association
The Good guys show in Scottsdale are legendary. They usually have a spring and a fall show and they are packed with Motorcycles and custom trucks. What I love about Good guys is the variety. You might see a traditional 1932 Ford with Old School Pinstriping parked right next to a modern truck with custom Flames. It is a very family-friendly vibe and a great place to talk shop. I have spent a lot of time at these shows over the last 35 years and it's where you see the history of custom art in real time. A lot of the people at these events can spot fake imagery a mile away, so I always like using real photos of real bikes and real paint.

4. Mixteca Cruise Night
If you know the west side then you already know about Mixteca Cruise Night, a lot of people just call it The Mixteca or the Saturday Night Cruise-In. It is out at 67th Ave and Bell Rd in Glendale and it has become a real Saturday tradition. Nancy Perry Productions host it, and they keep it moving with a DJ, cool cars, and a huge family vibe. This is one of those spots where you can see the real Phoenix scene up close, not polished for the internet, just real cars, real owners, real stories. That matters to me because customers know when something is authentic and when it is not. you can catch me there most Saturday nights

5. Concours in the Hills
This one happens in Fountain Hills and it is "The Greatest Car Show on Grass." It is a little different because it has everything from race cars to exotics to customs. The reason it made my list is because of the setting. Seeing a custom paint job with Gold Leaf accents while parked on the green grass by the lake is something special. The natural light shows every detail of the brush strokes. It really emphasizes why hand-painted work is better than a computer-cut vinyl. You can see the texture of the paint and the way it follows the lines of the body.
6. Arizona Cars and Coffee
If you don't want to wait for a big annual show you need to hit up the regular Cars and Coffee meets. There are ones in Scottsdale and Phoenix almost every weekend. These are great because they are casual. You can grab a coffee and walk around and talk to the owners. A lot of my clients bring their New Cars or their Golf Carts out to these. It is a good way to see what people are doing with their daily drivers. I do a lot of pinstriping on modern cars to give them a bit of personality so they don't look like every other car in the parking lot. And again, real cars matter. Real photos matter. People around here know what true hand-painted work looks like.

Welcome
A lot of people ask me what the big deal is with Gold Leaf. They see a gold sticker on a car and think it looks okay but then they see the real thing and their jaw drops. There is a huge difference between real 23k gold leaf and a vinyl sticker that is just colored to look like gold. I have been doing this for over 35 years and I can tell you that nothing beats the look of real gold. It has a glow to it that you just can't fake. It catches the sun in a way that makes the whole car look more expensive and custom. Same goes for the photos on this page too,I'm using real photos of real work because customers know the difference between actual craftsmanship and fake AI images.

What is Gold Leaf anyway?
Gold leaf is actual gold that has been hammered into incredibly thin sheets. When I apply it to a car or a Motorcycle I am literally putting a layer of precious metal on the surface. I use a special adhesive called "size" and I carefully lay the gold down by hand. It is a very delicate process that requires a lot of patience. If there is even a little bit of wind it can blow the gold away so I have to be very careful. After it is down I "turn" it or burnish it to give it that classic engine-turned look or a smooth mirror finish.

Real Gold vs Vinyl Stickers
The main difference is the depth. A vinyl sticker is flat. It might be shiny but it doesn't have any texture. Real gold leaf has a natural texture because it is made of tiny flakes and sheets. When you look at it closely you can see the character of the metal. Also real gold doesn't fade the same way stickers do. Arizona sun is brutal on vinyl. Over time stickers will crack and peel and lose their color. Real gold leaf that is properly cleared will last a very long time. It is an investment in your vehicle's look. If you have a Hot Rod or a high-end show car you don't want to ruin it with cheap stickers.
The Craftsmanship Matters
I've been doing this since 1987 and I've seen a lot of trends come and go. But hand-painted pinstriping and gold leafing are timeless. It shows that you care about the details. When I do a job I consult with you on the design and where the gold should go. Maybe you want a thin red pinstripe along the side your Ferrari or maybe you want bold gold Lettering on a vintage truck door. Whatever it is I make sure it fits the style of the vehicle.

Why it makes your ride stand out
The Phoenix car scene is crowded. There are a lot of cool cars out there. If you want to win trophies or just turn heads at the local cruise-in you need something unique. Gold leaf adds a level of class that you don't see every day. It looks great paired with Flames or traditional Scroll Pinstriping. It's the "secret sauce" that makes a custom paint job look professional. I've done work for lowriders, trucks, and even Golf Carts. Every one of them looked better with a touch of gold.
